Halloween HELP: 5 tips to keep from candy gorging

halloween candy

Happy Halloween!  I adore this holiday.  I love scary stories, costumes, macabre decorations and yes, sweets!   Halloween marks the seasonal beginning of candy, goodies, treats, and yummies.  Enjoy it (in moderation)!  I’m a huge fan of dark chocolate Peanut Butter cups (Trader Joes, my friends).  Tonight, it’s ok to have some candy.  Just go for a couple of choice treats instead of the whole bag!  Be mindful when you are eating sweets.   It is super easy to overdo it.   I like to call it “going gross”.  You know what I’m talking about.  I don’t think I need to go into the gory details.

Mighty Mama Super Sneaky Ways to Keep from “Going Gross”.

-Tea Time:  I find if I have a warm beverage in hand I tend sip away and it’s easier to say “no” to temptation.

-Say yes to Salmon! (or nuts or beans or chicken..) :  Eat a meal with some healthy protein before the sweets are presented.  Your tummy will stay satisfied longer.  NEVER open a bag of candy when you’re hungry!

-Sweat it out :  Workout before the festivities.  I find that I’m far less temped to go overboard when I’ve just come away from a fat-blasting fest!  You have the time!  Make it.  All you need is 15-20 min.  Excuse yourself to the basement get moving.  Pushups, jumping jacks, tricep dips, you don’t need a gym, mama!

-Don’t get Comfortable:  Don’t put on those sweatpants just yet.  If you’re wearing some clothes that are form fitting you’ll be far less willing to keep munching.  Promise.

-Bright Smile!:  Brush those teeth!  Food just doesn’t taste as good when your mouth is fresh and minty.  Just sayin’.

There you have it!  A fool proof way to not go crazy on candy tonight.  Have fun, be present, and enjoy your precious kiddos.  That’s what it’s all about.

Love,

Lindsey
