Once again I find myself on Monday morning needing to recover from another weekend of decadence. This weekend I hosted a brunch, attended a brunch as well as a neighborhood fall get together (aka comfort food feast). So basically I ate my way through the weekend, stayed up way too late Friday, Saturday and Sunday night. Anyone ever play the game Cards Against Humanity? If you have and are offended I even brought it up then I apologize, but I have to admit I’m still giggled from the immaturity this mature audience game induces. Heh. Google it, play it, but never admit to it. Shoot I just did. Oh well. Don’t judge me. Moving on……
So today, I’m picking myself up, dusting myself off and beginning again. Today is a new day and I choose to fuel my body with awesome food!
This is my Action Plan!
Upon waking up:
HUGE Jug of water with ½ lemon squeezed in. I typically like to do warm water with lemon but I’m running a little behind!
Brought out my trusty Vitamix and made myself a fruit-free green smoothie (trying to cut back on the sugar—yes even the good kind) I had enough of it this weekend to last me awhile.
1 cup of no-sugar added vanilla almond milk
1 cup of filtered water
1 scoop of vanilla vegan protein powder (Sun Warrior or Plant Fusion) I ordered off of Amazon
1 large handful of baby kale leaves
1 scoop of Amazing Grass Super Food Powder (chocolate flavor)
1-2 tbsp of ground flaxseeds or Almond butter
two handfuls of ice
*This makes a ton of smoothie and really fills me up. The protein keeps me from getting hungry an hour later.
3 organic celery stalks w/ almond butter
BIG salad! I call it The Cleaner. It's got tons of cabbage which is excellent for detoxifying the very important liver.
A sweet friend of mine sent me the recipe from the blog Dinneralovestory.com. They call it the Redemption salad. Very cute blog too!
Here is my modified recipe:
3 tablespoons rice vinegar
1 1/2 teaspoons raw honey
1 teaspoon salt
lime juice from half a lime
1 teaspoon minced ginger
1/3 cup grapeseed oil
2 to 3 large handfuls of shredded cabbage (both Savoy and Red)
Half a handful of shredded baby spinach
1 handful of shredded carrots
1 bunch (about 5-6) scallions, white and light green parts only, chopped
1/2 cup cilantro, chopped
Handful or two of sunflower seeds
Cucumber slices w/ hummus
I’ll either have another big salad w/ organic chicken breast and Dijon mustard dressing or another breakfast smoothie. I’ll see how hungry I am. You’d be surprised at how that smoothie can fill this lady up.
Enjoy your day. Don’t dwell on your past food defeats. Today is fresh and new and so are you!
