I was talking to a new mama the other day about life after baby. She was elated with her new little one. Being a new mom filled her with such a profound joy she could barely express herself. A little later she then embarrassingly admitted to feeling bad about wanting to not look so frumpy.
“I know it’s trivial and shallow, but I just want to like what I see in the mirror.”
“Whoa, whoa, whoa!” I said. “Who says it’s trivial or shallow to want to like what you see in the mirror? To feel vibrant, fit and sexy!” Everyone wants to feel good in there own skin. That’s not a crime or something to feel embarrassed about.
Mamas, PLEASE don’t beat yourself up because you can’t fit into your old jeans yet. Don’t feel guilty because the scale is nowhere close to what it read before getting pregnant. And certainly do NOT feel bad because you want it to.
If your postpartum self is different from what it was pre-pregnancy but you’re happy and healthy and energetic, Rock on hot mama! Don’t change a thing!
If you want to improve on your muscle tone, regain energy and lose of few pounds, that’s AWESOME too!!
The most important thing to remember is that you are enough, RIGHT NOW!
You are beautiful, smart and sexy at this very instant. Stop the lies you tell yourself. Stop the self-hatred. Be your own best friend and show love.
Then go kiss on that little baby of yours!
